Multi Utility, Taylor Wimpey, Staffordshire

THE PROJECT:

Aptus was contracted by Taylor Wimpey to complete electric and gas mains and services to site for 133 homes, which included a MP gas main near the busy A444 in Burton on Trent.

The design involved laying 800 meters of 90mm medium pressure gas main to site.  The gas main had to cross two bridges and a traffic island to enable connection. Steel duct had to be used to achieve the correct depth which allowed for added protection.

The team also needed to ensure that local residents, businesses, including a public house and the busy A-road could go about their day without being restricted by the works.

The project was constrained by a local authority requirement that the works had to be done during the school holidays.  Another issue was from a design point of view as the nearest low pressure gas supply went 900 meters in the other direction and this required reinforcement, so an alternative design was required.

To ensure that the project ran on time, during the school holidays, Aptus secured design approval to directional drill the gas main in sections.
