Advanced pressure drilling certification extends water service capability

Aptus have earned an enviable reputation for our water services, managing water connections for hundreds of leading UK construction and development companies for over a decade.

Our accreditation through Lloyd’s Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) authorises us to undertake all aspects of water network installation, including the planning and design, testing, chlorination and final connection to the live water network.

We can also connect developments to the network via OFWAT-approved New Appointments and Variations (NAV) solutions. Whatever the requirements, our experienced water engineering team has the expertise to manage the entire process.

We continually seek to enhance our service offering in all areas of our business, and our water services are no exception.

In the latest extension to our capability under WIRS, Aptus has been granted scope to conduct Construction of Routine Under Pressure Connections (CRUPC), which means we are authorised to carry out under pressure drilling on branch mains up to 63mm.

The new accreditation allows us to connect directly to branch mains owned and managed by the incumbent water company, where previously an approved contractor would have to be commissioned to undertake the connection.

This increase in efficiency enables Aptus to further streamline our service, resulting in a more cost effective offering for our clients.

Paul Noon, water connections manager, said it was a significant step forward for Aptus.

“The CRUPC extension to our WIRS accreditation allows us to provide an enhanced service. Managing the end-to-end process in-house gives us greater scope to improve timescales and will allow us to offer additional benefits to the customer.”

Aptus is the first self-lay provider to pass the accreditation first time – an achievement Paul attributes to an “outstanding and focused team effort across the water services department, from the agents and designers to the teams on the ground delivering the connections.”

Paul adds that this will assist Aptus in progressing to branch main connections to 90mm and 110mm, bringing still further benefits for developers and construction clients.
