Chloe joined Aptus in 2016 and was placed within our Head Office administration team where she could complete her training towards an NVQ Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship.
Recruiting apprentices into an administration role gives them a thorough overview of the company’s work as a multi utility provider and the sector-specific administrative processes involved. It also allows them to get an insight into the career paths available within the company.
After completing her apprenticeship, Chloe chose to specialise in the New Connections team. She shares her story here…
I first joined Aptus back in June 2016 as a Business Administration Apprentice. My first role within the company was working on the ordering department, ordering all the plant, materials and equipment needed on site. I really enjoyed this role as it helped me gain confidence building relationships with different suppliers/colleagues. I have been able to go out on-site visits over the years to further develop my knowledge and understanding which has helped me progress within the role I do today. I think stepping into a management role for me has been a natural transition as I have worked within my department for a long time. I understand how our processes work which enables me to run things to the best of my ability. One of the biggest milestones I have achieved so far in my opinion is being with the company for over 9 years, I am looking forward to reaching 10 years in June 2026.
Overall, I would say the main thing that has motivated me to grow and stay with Aptus is the people. Everyone I work with is very supportive and we all have a really good working relationship. The thing I enjoy most about my role, is now I have a lot more responsibility and knowledge behind me, it has helped boost my confidence and helped me learn a lot more about how to deal with different situations and dynamics. I am most proud of the number years I have worked for Aptus and how hard I have worked to be in the job role that I am currently.
I believe the most important qualities to have if you are starting out in multi-utility is to, always be willing to learn and work hard. No two days are the same, things are always changing because it’s a very fast-paced environment, you will learn something new every day. When I first joined Aptus I didn’t have any knowledge or understanding about multi-utility, however I was always and still am, willing to learn.
My advice would be to go for it, there are many different paths and opportunities to go down to gain a diverse skill set.
One piece of advice that has always stuck with me in my time at Aptus is to believe in myself.
