Multi Utility, Taylor Wimpey, Shropshire, 190 plots

THE PROJECT:

Aptus was contracted by Taylor Wimpey to deliver gas and electricity connections to 190 homes in Telford.

On site, there were constraints to overcome:

  • The project crossed a busy A road meaning that it was down to one lane at a time and also required temporary four-way traffic lights.
  • Local businesses including a gym, health centre, pub and a Morrisons store needed to maintain business continuity.
  • Both gas governor and substation needed to be commissioned and energized before first plot completions.
  • The site included difficult ground conditions, as the new road was built on top of an old-style road, with layers of cobbles and concrete to cut through.

Firstly, Aptus ensured the smooth installation of a gas governor which took place over a three week period.  The works required a separate notice from the council to work on the road space which Aptus arranged.  Aptus installed 300 meters of 125mm medium pressure gas main to the site.

The second phase required Aptus to install a new electricity substation with two 450 meters x 300 high voltage cables to site connecting from Western Power Distribution.  This phase took five weeks.

    Timely completion

Both the gas governor and the substation were commissioned and energized before the first plot completions.  Feedback during and following Aptus works were extremely positive.
