SOLUTIONS PROVIDED:

  • Effective and timely planning and execution from design and operational departments kept project on-track following the commissioning of utilities in a short timeframe
  • Installed a primary substation – feeding three high voltage substations – to power in excess of 1,000 homes
  • Laid a 1.75km EHV (Extra High Voltage) power line which required the coordination of several companies involved in the specialist project
  • Drilled under an overflow of the River Weaver to facilitate the water connection, and effectively communicated with third parties adjacent to the site to keep the project running smoothly

THE PROJECT:

Aptus was contracted to deliver electricity, gas and water connections to over 1,000 homes in Nantwich, Cheshire – as well as installing 29 lighting bollards – on behalf of David Wilson Homes, Redrow and Taylor Wimpey.

As with all the projects we work on, we knew effective and timely planning would be crucial for the success of this complex scheme.

This attention to detail was pivotal, as it enabled us to arrange interim connections to the electricity network to feed the substations, and meant our design and operational departments were fully aligned from day one.
Having a clear plan in place, backed up by the expert knowledge of our team on-site, also helped facilitate the installation of a primary substation which was commissioned in August 2022.

Powering in excess of 1,000 homes, the substation has extra provision for feeds to a district centre and school, helping to future-proof the development and allow for expansion to benefit the local community further down the line.

At Aptus, we understand the importance of not simply delivering solutions for today, but meeting the infrastructure needs of tomorrow, too.

Elsewhere, a number of challenges had to be overcome which required all the skills and experience of our project team.

To facilitate the water connection we had to drill under an overflow of the River Weaver; we were required to arrange the removal of livestock on third party land; and we also had to be considerate of training facilities at a local equestrian centre.

Covid impacted us part-way through a 1km off-site lay of EHV cables too, while working with a range of parties brought about significant Health and Safety requirements.

Despite this, good communication, planning, and the drive to succeed from our project teams helped ensure the smooth delivery of the development.
