Apprentices pass with flying colours

We recently celebrated five of our apprentices passing their course with some of the highest marks in the UK, each securing a distinction. They all travelled to our Bolton headquarters where they received their certificates and shared their experiences of being an apprentice.

Each apprentice has now been offered a permanent role with us and we’re delighted to welcome them to the team.

We developed our award-winning multi utility two-year apprenticeship scheme back in 2015 and since then, combined with our office apprenticeship offerings, we have had 50 people go through apprenticeship training with us, with 13 currently working towards an apprenticeship.

The multi utility apprenticeship combines on the job training and classroom learning, delivered by further education college Utility & Construction Training (UCT). The course leads to nationally recognised qualifications.

Steve Hyde, business development director at UCT, said:

“UCT is delighted to have delivered training for the Aptus apprenticeship and it’s especially pleasing to hear of the exceptional results achieved from all apprentices within the group.

“The attitude and commitment of the learners has been excellent throughout the programme and, together with the proactive support from the Aptus management team, has resulted in this successful outcome.”

Our managing director Lisa Kerford commented:

“Our sector is facing a severe skills shortage so we decided to address this head-on by creating our very own apprenticeship scheme. Basically, we’re growing our own talent.

“We are big believers in apprenticeships and have had young people train and qualify across a range of courses
who have gone on to enjoy careers as project managers, estimators, health and safety advisers, design engineers, electric jointers, gas engineers, warehouse operatives and business administrators.

“It’s so satisfying to see apprentices who’ve qualified in previous years now buddying up and helping the new starters in our latest intake.”

Celebrating the Class of 2019-2021

To mark the group’s success, we treated them to a Bond-themed all expenses trip to London, where the group travelled down the Thames in a speedboat before walking the red carpet to take their seats a VIP screening of ‘No Time To Die’.

As well as celebrating the class of 2021, we have welcomed a further eight apprentices who have now embarked on our two-year programme. We wish them lots of luck!
