Aptus takes on Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Derian House

Derian House PNG logo 01This summer Aptus will take on the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Derian House Children’s Hospice.

A group of 25 colleagues and their families have signed up to the challenge which will take place on Sunday 2nd July, with the goal of finishing the 25-mile hike within 12 hours.

Adrian Cunningham, Aptus’ technical manager who is organising the event, said: “This is not for the faint-hearted and will be a real accomplishment, especially if completed within the 12-hour challenge time.

“The walk is roughly a marathon length and covers the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough situated within the Yorkshire Dales over tough rugged terrain.”

As well as the distance the hike will involve climbing higher than Ben Nevis and is set to be demanding both physically and mentally.

Co-organiser quantity surveyor Eleanor Smith said: “We deliberately chose the Yorkshire Three Peaks because it won’t be easy and completing it will be a real achievement for those who take part. We want to raise lots of funds for a fantastic cause and needed to do something impressive that will encourage people to donate.”

What Money Buys

Where will the funds go?

Derian House Children’s Hospice looks after more than 400 seriously ill children from across the North West, operating 24/7 respite and end of life care and support services for families.

The charity has given families a home from home for 30 years providing a vital space to make lasting memories. All funds raised will go towards the charity and help to fund activities including family splash sessions in the hydrotherapy pool, afternoons in the sensory room, a visit from the therapy dog or help towards a free family stay in a Derian House Holiday Lodge.

Adrian said: “The team will go through a punishing time over the next couple of months as we all get fit enough to do this walk and break the magical 12-hour mark. Please help by sponsoring us and giving us the motivation to endure the many blisters and achy legs that will follow.”
