Career Focus – Jointers Mate Pete Clitheroe

At Aptus we are lucky to have a great team who play a key role in our company’s growth and success. Here we shine a spotlight on Jointers Mate Pete Clitheroe who has been at Aptus for over 11 years to find out more about his career.

Q: What did you do prior to joining Aptus?

Before Aptus I worked for E.ON and also undertook maintenance contracts which involved similar elements to my current role. It is strange to think of work before Aptus now, as I’ve been here for over a decade and really enjoy being part of the team.

Q: Tell us about your role at Aptus?

As a Jointers Mate I’m constantly out and about on different sites helping to connect a range of electrical elements, from LED light fittings to full lighting columns. I also work on elevated platforms. There is a lot of travelling, which wouldn’t be for everyone, but I really enjoy the variation. There is no way that I could sit at a desk all day!

Q: What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?

There are a few challenges! We must always meet deadlines and produce the highest quality work to the best standards no matter how big or small the project.

Many of the schemes we work on can be quite complex so you have to be 100% focused all the time. Another challenge can be the weather, especially in winter, but you learn to love whatever the elements throw at you.

Q: What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

It is always brilliant to see a project completed on time and receive good feedback, whether it’s from a client or members of the Aptus team. You never lose the buzz of finishing a job correctly that’s taken time, hard work and dedication. I also enjoy the regular events that Aptus organise for staff – the Christmas parties are probably my favourite.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out in the industry?

It probably sounds simplistic, but my main advice would be get stuck in, have a go and try your very best every day. It never does any harm to help out your team too if you see that someone might be struggling. I always try to give 110% at work as even 95% isn’t good enough. If you work hard and keep going, then opportunities will come your way and you’ll keep learning and progressing.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My wife and I have recently started growing fruit and vegetables on an allotment which we love. So far, we have grown potatoes, onions, rhubarb, raspberries, gooseberries and peas. I also enjoy going out cycling and walking with my family and our dog.
