Director’s charity triathlon for Rochdale hospital garden

Aptus Utilities’ Managing Director Lisa Kerford is taking on the York Triathlon this summer to raise funds for the Oasis Unit at Rochdale Infirmary.

Taking place on 14th July at York University, the triathlon will entail a 400 metre swim, 18 kilometre bike ride and 5 kilometre run.

Lisa has set a target of £1,500 to help towards the creation of a new garden for patients and family members to use during their stay at the unit.

The Oasis Unit is a 10 bed bespoke medical unit which provides care for patients with a medical condition who are also living with dementia. The unit has been sympathetically designed with each patient having their own private room as well as access to a communal dining and social space.

Patients benefit from receiving treatments for many medical conditions whilst also being assessed by trained mental health nurses who are based in the unit.

Raising funds for a complementary garden area

Lisa was moved to raise funds to support the creation of a complementary garden area after being impressed by the care a family member received at the unit.

She said: “My father was admitted to this ward with complex medical issues but also suffering from Parkinson’s; all of the staff and volunteers in this ward were trained specifically to deal with dementia type illnesses and so the care he received prior to his sudden death was fantastic and reassurance for us all he was being looked after well.

“We have decided to raise money for this cause with an initial target of £1,000, which has been surpassed so the new target is £1,500.”

A charity bake sale will take place at Aptus House on 27th and 28th June so people can support the cause by buying a cake or making a donation online at www.gofundme.com/lisa-amp-charies-york-triathalon-challenge.
