2021 Multi Utility Apprenticeship Scheme Launches

We have launched our 2021 Multi Utility Apprenticeship scheme and are inviting applications for new recruits to join our bespoke training programme which starts this September.

The two-year programme has been developed in conjunction with Manchester based Utility and Construction Training (UCT) and will lead to industry-recognised qualifications in gas and water fully equipping apprentices for a career with Aptus Utilities in the multi utility sector.

Aptus Utilities Craft Apprentices By NumbersThe programme combines formal training at UCT’s state-of-the-art centre and on-site training with our experienced teams, leading to a Gas Network Team Leader qualification with Water and other related *qualifications (see full list below) that on successful completion of the apprenticeship, will qualify apprentices to work as a multi utility operative.

Up to eight successful recruits will be required to work within the current operational teams based at one of our five depots, in either Penrith (Cumbria), Leyland (Lancashire), Wakefield (Yorkshire), Gateshead (Tyne & Wear), or Burntwood (Staffordshire) but will be expected to spend time away from home during the formal training periods at the training centre. Transport and accommodation will be provided, and apprentices will be placed with local resources to ensure transport is available during site-based training.

This will be the fourth intake of craft apprentices to join the business following the launch of the first scheme in 2015, followed by intakes in 2017 and 2019. Ten apprentices have successfully qualified so far, with another five MU and two Jointing apprentices due to complete their apprenticeships this year.

In 2019 Aptus became the first independent supply chain contractor in the UK to have Gas apprentices complete training in the rigorous new ‘trailblazer’ standard in Gas, helping us to cement our reputation for developing a new generation with vital industry skills.

Our award-winning apprenticeships provide a fantastic route into a career with our growing and ambitious company. The new team members will play a key role in helping us to achieve our growth ambitions by ensuring we have the skilled workforce to meet demand.

Mark Clegg Operations Director said: “The MU apprentices have been a success for us, with an ageing workforce nationally and general shortage of youngsters entering the utility sector we’ve been able to generate teams from within.

Aptus Utilities accepts applications from school and college leavers, or those looking for a change of career. If this is of interest please send your details to careers@aptusutilities.co.uk  by June 30th.
