Aptus achieves new ISO 45001 accreditation

Aptus has achieved the new ISO 45001 accreditation two years ahead of the required migration date.

The standard replaces OHSAS 18001 and forms a more rigorous international framework of occupational health and safety standards.

The standard, which came into force in March 2018, seeks to set a new benchmark in global OH&S and has been established following a five-year consultation process involving more than 70 countries.

Good safety culture

The new requirements emphasise the importance of embedding a ‘good safety culture’ from the ground up within an organisation, in the attitudes and behaviours of all employees, supervisors, managers and business owners in order to promote a teamwork mentality when it comes to safety.

This is achieved through strong leadership by the management team and positive communication and engagement with employees, empowering individuals to take responsibility for risk assessment and management and in the identifying and reporting of hazards.

Companies must migrate to the new standard by March 2021.
