Aptus Utilities in the running for Skills for Business Award

We have more awards news – Aptus Utilities is a finalist in the Skills for Business Awards which recognise and celebrate the direct impact learning has on businesses, individuals and communities in Greater Manchester.

Aptus Utilities is one of six candidates shortlisted in the Medium Business of the Year category. The company has committed to investing in and developing staff since it was formed in March 2010, and has taken on more than 30 apprentices over this period on both the administrative and construction side. We are particularly proud of being able to attract young people into the industry at a time when it faces a critical skills shortage.

Many of our business apprentices, a significant number of which come through Alliance Learning – shortlisted in the Learning Provider category at SfBA 2017 – have gone on to train in estimation, programming, project management, design and other areas.

In addition, Aptus Utilities supports employees to gain skills and qualifications where required, which as well as enhancing their professional development, equips them to perform their role with confidence and brings added value to the service we provide to clients.

On the construction side, our first intake of multi utility and jointing apprentices, who joined in 2015, are due to qualify this autumn having undertaken a two year programme combining formal classroom-based learning with practical training, delivered in conjunction with Utility & Construction Training at their specialist Carrington facility. We are looking forward to welcoming a new cohort this October to add to our team of inhouse skilled operatives!

The Skills for Business Awards, in association with Pearson, are being hosted by a partnership of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network. SfBA presents awards in 14 categories that recognise apprentice success stories as well as learning providers, companies and individuals for their hard work championing and investing in skills and staff training. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 30 November at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford.
