Aptus Utilities’ Multi Utility Apprentices are among the first in the country to meet a rigorous new standard in Gas training.
The apprentices received a glowing report from construction training partner Utility & Construction Training (UCT) following their successful achievement of the qualification this summer.
UCT Business Development Director Steve Hyde commented: “In October 2017 Aptus Utilities commenced an apprenticeship training programme working in partnership with Utility and Construction Training Ltd (UCT). In doing Aptus became the first independent supply chain contractor in the UK to have their Gas apprentices commence training in the new trailblazer, Gas Standard, Level 2, Gas Network Team Leader Service Layer pathway.
“The apprenticeship lasts up to 24 months and it has an Independent End Point Assessment process in the final six months, which really tests the candidates to the maximum.
“The five Aptus apprentices went through a number of training activities during their block release periods at the state-of-the-art gas training facilities at UCT Carrington.
“We are delighted for all the apprentices who took part in the scheme, all the five candidates have successfully passed and completed their apprenticeship. Two of the apprentices were outstanding and achieved distinctions.
“UCT staff and directors wish the apprentices all the very best for the future and look forward to working with the Aptus team in the future.”

Aptus Utilities and UCT have been in partnership since 2015, working to deliver bespoke craft apprenticeships which combine classroom-based learning with practical training and on site experience. The training allows Aptus Utilities to develop a workforce of fully competent operatives that meet both company and governing body requirements. A third intake of Multi Utility Apprentices are due to begin training this autumn.
