Team spirit high in Lancashire’s historic Orphanage Cup

IMG 6908We are proud to have sponsored and taken part in historic Lancashire football tournament the ‘Orphanage Cup’ which is organised annually by Child Action Northwest and the Lancashire FA to raise funds for charity.

After only a few weeks’ training together and dressed in full Aptus kit, the 11-a-side squad competed in the first-round tie against former winners H&T Presspart on Thursday 4th May.

Battling hard in windy conditions at Pleasington Playing Fields in Blackburn, the team put in a great effort and while we were disappointed to lose to the seasoned competitors, it was great to be involved and support a worthy cause.

Manager, Operations Director Mark Clegg praised the team for their efforts:

“We lost 5-1 to H&T Presspart, which was no disgrace in our first competitive game against the former winners, they also play in a weekend league so are a longstanding experienced team.

“There was a great attitude and effort from all the guys, and the team spirit and bonding between individuals from varying roles across Aptus was great to see. I’m really proud of them all.”

The Orphanage Cup has been running since 1932, with thousands of teams from local businesses taking part to raise funds for Child Action Northwest, which started life at Blackburn Orphanage.

All the money raised from the tournament goes directly towards supporting young people, vulnerable adults and families in challenging circumstances. For more details or to donate visit Orphanage Cup 2023.
